Since we opened in 2007, we have worked hard to provide the best childcare possible for our parents. We have been at the forefront of pioneering a special kind of childcare that is unlike anything that is offered in central Virginia.

What we have achieved

Growing With Our Community

What started in March 2007 with one location and just 43 children in Rustburg, Virginia, has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined!

Today, we are proud to be the largest child care provider in the Lynchburg area, with four locations, approximately 750 children, and more than 135 amazing employees who make what we do possible every day.

And we've kept growing! Our program has expanded to include our very own fun and activity center, The Warehouse, located at our headquarters in Madison Heights. The Warehouse gives us even more opportunities to create exciting, memorable experiences for the children in our care.

Through the years, we've had the privilege of caring for thousands of children and families throughout the Lynchburg area. While we've grown quite a bit since those first 43 kids, the heart behind what we do hasn't changed: providing a place where children are loved, encouraged, challenged to grow, and taught foundational Christian values along the way.

We've grown a lot since 2007—and we're excited about what's still ahead!

philosophy

A Place to Learn, Grow & Belong

At The Caterpillar Clubhouse, we believe every child is uniquely created, deeply valued, and worthy of being known, loved, and encouraged. Our doors are open to children of all races, creeds, and nationalities who can benefit from the care and experiences our programs provide.

We offer a nurturing environment filled with play, discovery, creativity, friendships, and learning for children from infancy through age five. For our school-age children, ages 6–12, we offer before- and after-school care, as well as a full-day summer program packed with special activities, themed weeks, and memorable experiences designed specifically for bigger kids.

Our Christian Foundation

At the heart of our philosophy is the belief that caring for children means caring for the whole child—helping them grow not only academically and developmentally, but also in character, compassion, confidence, and faith.

Our approach is grounded in the example of Jesus Christ and His call to love God and love others. Throughout everyday interactions, we encourage values such as kindness, honesty, forgiveness, patience, generosity, respect, and serving others. Our desire is for children to begin understanding that they are created by God, loved by Him, and can experience the hope, purpose, and belonging that come through a relationship with Christ.

While Christian principles are woven naturally into our program, specific church or denominational doctrines are not taught. Families from a variety of backgrounds are welcomed and valued at The Caterpillar Clubhouse.

Licensed & Approved

The Caterpillar Clubhouse is a privately owned, for-profit child care organization operated by SET, Inc. Each location is administered by a state-licensed director, and our programs are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services.

Our facilities are also inspected and approved by the appropriate:

  • Virginia Department of Health

  • Virginia State Fire Marshal

  • Virginia Building Inspector

Above all, our goal is simple: to create a place where children are safe, loved, encouraged to grow, and reminded through both our words and our actions just how valuable they are.
